Project J was a groundbreaking exploration into bespoke footwear design that merged 3D Scanning digital fabrication and creative collaboration. Commissioned by Minister of Science Education and Innovation Jet Bussemaker for the Prinsjesdag event, our team—Pauline van Dongen, Leonie Tenthof van Noorden, and myself—leveraged advanced 3D body scanning and generative 3-D modeling to craft an outfit that transcended conventional design. At the heart of the project were our 3D-printed high heels, engineered with smart geometries and material programming to support and guide the wearer’s movement in unexpected ways. In our Dezeen interview, we discussed how our parametric design approach not only addressed physical fit but also embraced kinetic, social, and behavioral dimensions—ultimately creating footwear that felt like a shared, innovative creation.
